Jacqueline
Speech-Language Pathologist (Maternity Leave)
My name is Jacqueline. I’m originally from London, Ontario but I’ve been calling Calgary home since 2014. At Kids Uncomplicated I am the Executive Director and also a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist. In addition to working with the team on program development, improving and expanding services, supporting the KU team and more, I work directly with families to support in improving communication and social skills for their children. I have been working with children with disabilities for most of my life through various programs such as Special Olympics. Prior to becoming an SLP, I completed a Master of Arts degree in Linguistics where my studies focused on child language impairment. Since graduating with a Masters in Clinical Science (Speech-Language Pathology) from the University of Western Ontario, I have undergone many trainings including: PECS -Level 1, Introduction to Prompt, and Hanen It Takes Two to Talk, More Than Words and Talkability. Every child and family has many strengths and I love finding out what these are so I can support in building off of these to improve quality of life for the entire family. I love hearing about new contexts where parents have used strategies and hearing about the wonderful family successes that follow. My approach is always to get to know each unique child and family so I can best adapt my strategies and the program. I love to be flexible and creative in my approach and love to keep things straightforward, easy to implement and most importantly, make time to celebrate and smile!
In my free time I love spending time with family, friends and my two cats. I love exploring new places, running and (trying to) snowboard. I also love creative writing and baking (especially when I can share that baking with other people).

Karen
Speech-Language Pathologist
My name is Karen. I am a registered speech-language pathologist with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) and certified by Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC-OAC). I received my Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language pathology from the University of Alberta and my Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.
I joined the Kids Uncomplicated team in January 2019 and currently work as an SLP and as Director of Clinical Services. I have extensive experience in areas of receptive/expressive and social language disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, autism spectrum disorder and with trauma informed practice. Working as a speech-language pathologist is a truly rewarding profession! The ability to help children and their families and make a positive impact in their lives is what drives my passion for what I do. I am a strong advocate for a family-centered approach. I am passionate about working with children and their families to promote functional communication, social and emotional growth and success. There’s nothing more powerful than giving a child a voice. I love to continually learn and to keep up to date with the latest research. I also love mentoring and working collaborating with the team and staff at KU. My other passions are my three daughters and spending time with my family and friends.
I’m a hockey mom and supporter of the arts! I love hiking in the beautiful mountains of the Rockies, listening to music, reading and taking long walks with my rescue puppy.

Jade
Child Development Coach
“Mommy!” Mom cries after hearing her daughter call for her for the first time.
This is one of the many reasons why I love what I do at Kids Uncomplicated! I get to connect with families, play with kids, and at the same time impact lives in small and big changes. From encouraging a child to play with new peers, to helping parents feel confident with calming their child, and motivating kiddos to develop independence and skills in hygiene routines. My role as a Child Development Coach, Team Lead and instructor for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention gives me the opportunity to collaborate with an amazing team and to connect with families on a personal level. I am grateful to have an active role in contributing to one of KU’s visions, “to connect a billion lives to quality services.” I know that no single approach is the right one for every family and individual, and so I have been trained in a range of modalities and continue to learn each day. I believe that challenges make life interesting, but overcoming those challenges makes life meaningful.
I grew up in Canada and had a chance to travel and live abroad. I have a family of four beautiful, strong-minded, and high-energy children who keep me young at heart. In my spare time, I stay active by training in different forms of martial arts. In my spare, spare time I like to explore Alberta’s great outdoors.

This means that I help our kiddos to learn functional communication skills as well as social skills in conjunction with our Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs). I received my diploma in Speech Language Pathologist Assistant from Medicine Hat College in 2013 and my Bachelor’s Degree in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies from the University of Calgary in 2018. I have been lucky enough to be working in this field for the last seven years, and as such have learnt so much from all my past clients. I believe that being able to communicate, whether verbally or with additional supports, is a basic human right for everyone and I am glad that I can help our kiddos achieve this through my work at Kids Uncomplicated.
When I am not at work, I love to spend time with my family and friends, read, bake or snuggle with my pet cat, Poe.
