Executive Director and Speech-Language Pathologist

My name is Jacqueline Nyhout. I’m originally from London, Ontario but I’ve been calling Calgary home since 2014. At Kids Uncomplicated I am the Executive Director and also a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist. In addition to working with the team on program development, improving and expanding services, supporting the KU team and more, I work directly with families to support in improving communication and social skills for their children. I have been working with children with disabilities for most of my life through various programs such as Special Olympics. Prior to becoming an SLP, I completed a Master of Arts degree in Linguistics where my studies focused on child language impairment. Since graduating with a Masters in Clinical Science (Speech-Language Pathology) from the University of Western Ontario, I have undergone many trainings including: PECS -Level 1, Introduction to Prompt, and Hanen It Takes Two to Talk, More Than Words and Talkability. Every child and family has many strengths and I love finding out what these are so I can support in building off of these to improve quality of life for the entire family. I love hearing about new contexts where parents have used strategies and hearing about the wonderful family successes that follow. My approach is always to get to know each unique child and family so I can best adapt my strategies and the program. I love to be flexible and creative in my approach and love to keep things straightforward, easy to implement and most importantly, make time to celebrate and smile!

In my free time I love spending time with family, friends and my two cats. I love exploring new places, running and (trying to) snowboard. I also love creative writing and baking (especially when I can share that baking with other people).

Director of Clinical Services and Speech-Language Pathologist

My name is Karen Ingram-Johnson. I joined the Kids Uncomplicated team in January 2019 and currently work as an SLP and as Director of Clinical Services. I have extensive experience in areas of receptive/expressive and social language disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, autism spectrum disorder and with trauma informed practice. Working as a speech-language pathologist is a truly rewarding profession! The ability to help children and their families and make a positive impact in their lives is what drives my passion for what I do. I am a strong advocate for a family-centered approach. I am passionate about working with children and their families to promote functional communication, social and emotional growth and success. There’s nothing more powerful than giving a child a voice. I love to continually learn and to keep up to date with the latest research. I also love mentoring and working collaborating with the team and staff at KU. My other passions are my three daughters and spending time with my family and friends.

I’m a hockey mom and supporter of the arts! I love hiking in the beautiful mountains of the Rockies, listening to music, reading and taking long walks with my rescue puppy.

Director of Family Centred Services

Hi, my name is Julian Hernandez and I am the Director of Family Centered services.

I am from Edmonton, Alberta and have been in Calgary for the last 3 years supporting families in the Calgary and surrounding region. My role with Kids Uncomplicated is to help families find the right supports that fits their family. I will probably be the first person you speak with to help make sure that you’re on the right track with getting started services, helping navigate FSCD and helping your family succeed through your program! Having completed my degree in psychology from MacEwan University, it was clear for me to see that my passion was in helping people find the right tools that work for them and leading with compassion. Having been with Kids Uncomplicated for the last 4 years has allowed me to use my experience and knowledge to welcome and support every parent I speak with. The greatest joy of my role is seeing parents, children and families succeed in a way that some parents never thought possible. Providing hope, inclusion and strength-based perspectives to all families are key values of mine.

On my off time, I like to travel, watch movies, and spend time with my family. I look forward to knowing more about you and your family!

Occupational Therapist

Hi there, my name is Lydia Heng and I am an Occupational Therapist working with Kids Uncomplicated! I have been so lucky to have been born and raised in Calgary, being surrounded by family, friends, and the beautiful mountains. I love traveling to new places, eating great food, reading, playing board games, being active, and watching a few too many movies and TV shows! As an OT with the Kids Uncomplicated team, I am working with our amazing team members to provide coaching, assessments, and intervention plans for children and families in so many areas! These can include: self-regulation and sensory processing skills, fine and gross motor skills, motor planning, self-care skills like brushing teeth, dressing and toileting, and play/leisure skills. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology degree from the University of Calgary, and a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy from Queen’s University in Kingston. Along with this I have worked professionally with children for 10 years with experiences in areas of youth coaching, private clinics, and within hospitals.

Every day at KU I get to honor my core values of trust, respect, and optimism, which guide me through practice to provide compassionate and professional care, and being able to work collaboratively and holistically with the families that we connect with — how can I beat that?

Provisional Psychologist

My name is Jordan Pisesky, and I am a Behaviour Specialist with Kids Uncomplicated. I was born in Calgary but moved to the United States to complete my undergrad in psychology. While living in the United States I volunteered in schools and nursing homes. Upon graduation I returned to Calgary and worked with Hull Services while completing my master’s degree in counselling psychology. During my master’s program I had the opportunity to complete my practicum with Golden Hills School Division. I have always had the goal of working with youth, but throughout my years of experience I quickly learned the positive impact that working with the whole family system has. Utilizing a family centered approach and supporting families in building knowledge, strategies, and skills to best support their child and family, is my passion.

When I am not working with kiddos and their families you can find me with my dog, family and friends, playing soccer, cooking or out in the mountains.

I love my job so much and feel so fortunate to be working in this field! I am a competitive singer in a female & mixed quartet.

I also teach voice on the side (in my spare time) & sing on the worship team at my church as well.

Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant

Hi, my name is Marli Sather and I am a part of the Speech Team at Kids Uncomplicated as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA). This means that I help our kiddos to learn functional communication skills as well as social skills in conjunction with our Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs). I grew up on a farm in southwest Saskatchewan and have lived in Calgary since 2013. I received my diploma in Speech Language Pathologist Assistant from Medicine Hat College in 2013 and my Bachelor’s Degree in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies from the University of Calgary in 2018. I have been lucky enough to be working in this field for the last seven years, and as such have learnt so much from all my past clients. I believe that being able to communicate, whether verbally or with additional supports, is a basic human right for everyone and I am glad that I can help our kiddos achieve this through my work at Kids Uncomplicated.

When I am not at work, I love to spend time with my family and friends, read, bake or snuggle with my pet cat, Poe.

Child Development Coach

“Mommy!” Mom cries after hearing her daughter call for her for the first time.

This is one of the many reasons why I love what I do at Kids Uncomplicated! I get to connect with families, play with kids, and at the same time impact lives in small and big changes. From encouraging a child to play with new peers, to helping parents feel confident with calming their child, and motivating kiddos to develop independence and skills in hygiene routines. My role as a Child Development Coach, Team Lead and instructor for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention gives me the opportunity to collaborate with an amazing team and to connect with families on a personal level. I am grateful to have an active role in contributing to one of KU’s visions, “to connect a billion lives to quality services.” I know that no single approach is the right one for every family and individual, and so I have been trained in a range of modalities and continue to learn each day. I believe that challenges make life interesting, but overcoming those challenges makes life meaningful.

I grew up in Canada and had a chance to travel and live abroad. I have a family of four beautiful, strong-minded, and high-energy children who keep me young at heart. In my spare time, I stay active by training in different forms of martial arts. In my spare, spare time I like to explore Alberta’s great outdoors.
